Reduce server spam

I've noticed that it is hard to carry on a conversation due to server spam in the chat window. I'm a TF2 player that plays music and has voice disabled due to the rambunctious teens and/or pre-teens that play this game. Is there any way to disable or have an option to disable server spam from kills in the chat window?

Not sure but I am one that also plays with music on. When there is a lot of killing a lot of points fly through that chat box.
